It can treat only up to 180 Covid-19 patients when operating at full capacity, states Treetop Hospital.
In a press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Amr Safwat from Treetop Hospital said that the hospital planned on expanding its capacity in two phases. In the first phase, the hospital will have the capacity to treat 46 patients with 15 ICU beds, 15 pre-ICU beds, and 15 post-ICU beds. And once it begins to operate at full capacity, Amr Safwat states that the hospital can treat 180 patients at one time.
The private hospital located in Hulhumale’ has offered its services and signed an agreement with the government of Maldives to lend the hospital for the effort against Covid-19 and repurposed as a designated medical facility to treat COVID-19 patients for three months.
Owned by the Champa family, the offering of the hospital as a designated COVID-19 treatment facility, is because they believed it to be their patriotic duty to help Maldives overcome the crisis it now faces states the hospital’s CEO David Feinberg.
The hospital is currently treating five patients with Covid-19, all of who require advanced medical treatment such as oxygen therapy. The Maldivian government is also supplying medicine and other medical equipment to Tree Top, along with more health professionals to support the existing medical team at the hospital.
