Chief Inspector Izmia Zahir has been dismissed from her position as Police Spokesperson.
Maldives Police made the announcement after speculation in the media regarding the dismissal, and further stated that Superintendent of Police Yoonus Sobah will now take the post as Police Spokesperson.
Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed in a tweet expressed gratitude and praised her effort to close the gap between public/media and the police institution. The Commissioner further added that unseen levels of engagements had been observed during her tenure.
Chief Inspector Izmia is the first ever female spokesperson of Maldives Police. She is a graduate of Singapore National Police Academy and earned her Master’s in peace and conflict studies, in Australia.
