United States and Maldives have signed the “Framework for U.S. Department of Defense-Maldives Ministry of Defense, Defense and Security Relationship” to develop and strengthen military and security ties between both countries.
The agreement was signed by Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi on behalf of the Maldivian government and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia Reed Werner on behalf of the United States.
Defense Ministry states that the frame work highlights a number of bilateral activities, including senior-level dialogues, discussions, engagements, and opportunities in areas such as maritime domain awareness, natural disasters, and humanitarian relief operations.
