Sport Fishing is already a billion dollar industry in the world. Countries such as Costa Rica have fishing tourism as one of their good income sources, and it is time that Maldives start using the sea around them for fishing in tourism as well.
The Maldivian men to introduce fishing tourism as an industry to tourism goes by the name as Abdulla Anif who was born in the Island of Hithadhoo, which is nested in the southernmost part of the Addu Atoll. Anif was a fishing enthusiast who had been working in the tourism field for 15 years until he realized that he could introduce his favorite hobby as a part of the tourism.
Teaming up with others such as himself, he created “Addu Sport Fishing” , where he became the backbone of addu’s fishing tourism industry. Anif and his team have been in the field of Sport Fishing for about 10 years now and after a lot of hard work and effort, they had started gaining international popularity as well with the help of social media platforms and the aesthetic depictions of fishing in photographs.
Anif envisions that in the future, Maldives will use the oceans around them to the fullest by investing in fields such as fishing tourism.
