Ministry of Islamic Affairs has commenced the collection of Zakat al Fitr yesterday.
According to the Islamic Ministry, this year’s zakat will be collected on weekdays bewteen 9:15 and 13:00.
Collection in other cities and islands besides Male’ city will be organised by the respective councils.
For residents of Vilimale a collection center has been set up a the City Council’s Villimale’ Unit, while collection in Hulhumale’ will be carried out at their community center.
The value of Zakat al Fitr for the year is 2.4kg of the type of staple food most commonly eaten by the people of that island.
