Modi’s Speech Scheduled In-between Prayers

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to give his speech between the prayers of Maghrib and Ishaa, and this is concerning for some people. 

According to reports, Modi is set to give his speech in the People’s Majilis, Saturday at 6:45 PM. However, all parliament members and guests invited to the occasion are required at the Majilis at 6 PM. Therefore, Majilis members and other guests are likely to miss the Maghrib prayer, because the session is unlikely to end before the Ishaa prayer. 

Some of the parliament members also expressed their concerns regarding the issue. In a tweet, MP-elect of Naifaru constituency and the Vice President of PPM Ahmed Shiyam questioned the decision parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed took to schedule the session between Maghrib and Ishaa prayers. He accused Nasheed of entertaining secularism in the Maldives.

There has never been a legislative meeting in the Maldives ever conducted between the Maghrib and Ishaa prayers. Throughout history, Maldivians dedicated and singled out this particular time period to focus on religious activities. Even today, both adults and children alike, are seen performing prayers and reciting Quran and Dhikr between the said prayers.
