Foreign Minister in his visit to the UK has submitted the official documents to rejoin back into the Commonwealth after previous government’s withdrawal in 2016.
The country withdrew from the Commonwealth on June 13th 2016 under the former presidency of Yameen. Rejoining the Commonwealth was part of the first 100 day pledges of President Solih’s government and under unanimous approval of the cabinet, the documents have now been submitted.
The Maldives initially joined the Commonwealth on 2nd July 1982 and was a member state until withdrawal in 2016.
