Dr Aishath Muneeza has been acknowledged as one of this year’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance.
Dr Aishath Muneeza was conferred with the Women in Islamic Business and Finance (WOMANi) Award trophy and the certificate, in the ceremony held in Dubai. WOMANi is a women empowerment programme to highlight exceptional roles women play in Islamic business and finance.
The top 300 most influential women in Islamic business and finance were named in the WOMANi ceremony and gala dinner was hosted by Cambridge IFA, a UK-based financial intelligence house, on the evening of 17 June 2019 in Dubai, UAE.
Dr Aishath Muneeza is an Islamic Finance scholar who is an associate professor at the Islamic Finance University of Bank Negara Malaysia. She is Maldives Hajj Corporation’s first chairman and the first woman deputy minister of the ministry of Islamic affairs and also acted as the deputy minister of finance and treasury. She is also regarded as one of the pioneers of Islamic finance who began her career in Maldives ‘ Capital Market Development Authority as the Islamic Finance advisor and as the Head of Islamic Finance.
She has designed the first corporate sukuk and sovereign private sukuk offered by the government of the Maldives. She also aided the structuring of the country’s first Islamic treasury bills. She was also the advisor to realize the first ever Islamic microfinance initiative.
Dr Mueeza’s contribution to Islamic finance is recognized worldwide and her Islamic finance journals are used as references all over the world.
