A Maldivian woman with New Zealand citizenship has won a seat on New Zealand’s Hutt City Council.
Shazly Rasheed, who has been residing in New Zealand for the past 20 years won the council election held on 12th October in Hutt City.
Owner of a popular salon at Hutt city, Shaazlee pledged to advance the business and employment opportunities during her campaigns for the city council election.
Shazly ran in the election as an independent candidate and won over 8000 votes, becoming one of the 11 councilors on the council.
In a post after the victory, Shaazlee thanked everyone for their votes and support and stated that she would give her best to make Hutt city a peaceful place.
