CEO of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), Ismail Fauzy stated that the fish caught by the fishermen are bought by MIFCO.
As per the enhancement of catching fish in northern areas of the Maldives, MIFCO’s factory located at Felivaru faced issues of weighing, and storing the large number of fish brought each day by the fishermen. Some fish were even discarded of rotting due to the overload.
Speaking to “mihaaru”, Fauzy stated that the factory has a capacity of weighing 170tons per day. Subsequently it takes a longer time to weigh such a large number of fish.
Fauzy further stated that a solution has now been found regarding the issue and the time which the fishermen have to spend in queues is being lessened.
