After a dinghy boat capsized off the island of Kudahuvadhoo, a Swedish tourist was killed.
Chief Speaker of the MNDF Major Ibrahim Azim said on Sunday evening that the authority received reports of a boat carrying six people capsizing around 1622hrs. Officers from the Coastguard Squadron Central Area of the MNDF were immediately sent to the area, Azim said.
While at the time of the tragic accident, four foreigners and two Maldivians were on board the ship, all six passengers were saved by locals from Kudahuvadhoo who arrived on the scene by jet ski before the coast guard arrived, Major Azim said.
The wounded were admitted to the hospital in Kudahuvadhoo.
The Council of Kudahuvadhoo said all four foreigners on board the vessel were tourists staying in a guest house in Kudahuvadhoo. While fishing, the vessel flipped, the council overturned. The council cited the Kudahuvadhoo Hospital and said that the time he was brought to the hospital the Swedish tourist had already passed away.
