In light of Maldives achieving its 1.5 million tourist visit targets on November, state is pushing up the target for 2020.
According to the country’s Tourism Ministry the target for the upcoming year is 2 million tourist visits.
The ministry earlier this year projected a total arrival count of 1.5 million by end of 2019.
However, based on the uptick in tourist arrivals, they soon revised the target to 1.6 million.
As the high arrival figures each month meant achieving the initial target way ahead of year end.
According to the President of Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation, the tourist count will hit 1.67 million by end of the running year.
In recent years, tourist arrivals to Maldives has observed visible and gradual upward movement.
The figures indicated the 1.3 million tourist visits in 2017, hit a jump of 6.8% in the following year putting total visits at 1.4 million.
In light of improved tourism performance, Minister of Tourism reiterated the government’s eventual tourist target.
As per Mr Ali Waheed, the minister, by end of current administration’s five year term the tourist count will reach an estimated 2.5 million visits.
Moreover, to ensure the growth in tourist arrival government will be injecting an additional MVR50 million on top of the current MVR104.2 million.
The aforementioned budget has been allocated for tourism promotion in various international platforms.
This year saw state-based marketing and public relations corporation vigorously promoting Maldivian tourism in several international events.
Noticeably, the end result has been fruitful with considerable growth in arrivals in 2019 compared to previous year.
