On the 3rd of November this year, right outside A.dh Mandhoo, police with the help of the coast guard detained 7 Iranians with allegations of drug trafficking. Today, police have stated that they are set free.
On further, police stated that these 7 men are set free mainly due to immigration not taking control to deport them back to their respective country. On November 3rd at first, the police stated that the boat that they were traveling consisted of drugs and they were trying to traffic it into the country. But later on that month the police also stated that they did not find any drugs from their boat.
The PG has decided to not prosecute the seven men rather deport them back to their country. Therefore, the police tried to send the seven men to immigration to be sent back but, immigration stated that the detention center is currently full. An official from immigration stated that not even a single vacancy has been vacated.
Currently, the detention center could only hold 60 people at the same time and before the center could hold 100. The change in numbers is due to the Maldives following the Mandela rules.
