600 Doctors and Nurses have been trained for critical care response reports Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
In a press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Dr. Moosa Hussain from IGMH stated that due to the lack of human resources in the country, IGMH conducted the training to increase the medical capacity of the country.
The demand for health professionals has increased drastically and sourcing from abroad has become difficult as the pandemic is hit globally. Therefore authorities have resorted to developing and training doctors and nurses currently in the country for critical care. “Doctors of all categories, whether they are an ophthalmologist or orthopedic doctor, we brought them all in and tried to conduct critical care training for them.”, stated Dr. Hussain.
A total number of 601 doctors and nurses from Male’ and regional hospitals were trained in on wearing PPEs, intubation, and familiarization with ventilators.
