Renowned Paedritican and the chairperson of Maldives Technical Advisory Group on Immunization Dr. Ahmed Faisal says more and more children are falling sick with the common cold and that 6 children are currently being treated in the ICU.
Dr. Faisal said that the current bout of common cold and flu that has been going around has not subsided and that those patients with other underlying conditions are suffering more from the illness.
He urged all to take all the necessary precautions to avoid the spread of the common cold and forgo practices that encourage the spread of the illness, especially among young children.
Meanwhile, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital said today that between 13th October to 25th October, 589 patients visited the flu clinics to seek consultations.
It said that this includes 556 locals and 33 foreigners. But IGMH did not clarify which of those patients had tested positive for COVID-19 and which were determined as common cold or flu cases.
Authorities have urged the public to visit the flu clinics if having flu or cold-like symptoms instead of going directly to hospitals or clinics.
