A new shop selling Maldivian fish products has been opened in Malaysia.
“The Maldivian Fish Market” was opened at the end of last April by the famous football match commissioner, Abdul Hameed Abdul Qafoor.
This shop is located at Subang Jaya, a neighborhood that is gaining popularity amongst the Maldivians living in Malaysia.
Abdul Qafoor says their motivation to open the store was due to the difficulties that the Maldivians have faced trying to obtain fish in Malaysia and hopes that this will bring a solution to that problem. He also wants to expand this new business venture and open similar shops in Thailand and Singapore in the future.
He further explains how they are cargo agents of Air Asia, and it was due to lack of cargo being sent to Malaysia from Maldives, that they finally decided to send their own cargo to the country and kick start their business.
As of now, The Maldivian Fish Market sells only two products; fish cans and frozen fish. The fish cans are being imported through Horizon Fisheries while frozen fish is imported through Ensis, a company well known for exporting fish abroad from Maldives.
Mr. Qafoor also highlighted about the ongoing discussions with Mifco to introduce their product line to the shop, and says Mifco’s reaction to the proposal was very positive and that they ensured their full corporation and assistance to the shop in every way they can.
On a daily basis, a lot of Maldivians travel to Malaysia with many already settled there. The growing population of Maldivians in Malaysia is one of the main reasons why they anticipate high demand for their services.
