Plans For Ferry Services Between Cochin and Maldives Underway

In the press conference held before the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to Maldives, the Indian Foreign Secretary stated that there are plans to begin ferry services between Cochin and the Maldives in development.

According to the Foreign Secretary, the necessary surveys and research are being conducted to see what it would take to link the two countries via an oversea ferry system.

Furthermore, he stated that the Prime Minister will also arrange a vessel for the students Bas Fehendhoo to enable them to go to another island for their education.

The Maldives India ferry system has been an idea of President Nasheed as well with plans being developed during his tenure. However before any groundwork could be laid, he had stepped down from office.
