The Maldives formally established diplomatic ties with the Republic of Rwanda last Friday.
During a special ceremony held at the Rwandan Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York, the two nations signed a joint agreement.
While Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN Thilmeeza Hussain signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian Government, Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the UN Valentine Rugwabiza signed on behalf of Rwanda.
The Maldives currently maintains diplomatic relations with 172 countries.
