Maldives promoted in London, UK

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) launched an advertising campaign to promote the Maldives throughout London, United Kingdom, at major locations.

At busy railway stations and on tour buses in London City, advertisements featuring the Maldives have been displayed.

MMPRC said Maldives’ beautiful pictures were shown on digital displays at bus stops in Central London from September 23 to October 6, with the intention of encouraging future travelers.

In addition, a video showing the destination’s exclusivity was shown on the motion monitor at Waterloo Station. This 40-meter-long screen is Europe’s biggest optical indoor display. Waterloo Station is London’s main train and subway station, which is also UK’s largest bus station, MMPRC added. While more than 94 million people travel through the station each year, MMPRC reports that the station show would have reached more than 2.3 million Londoners.

MMPRC added that the Maldives will be promoted from 8 am to 8 pm for six months using tour buses operated seven days a week. Tour buses full of pictures showcasing the destination’s beauty can travel on a daily basis along popular routes such as Central London, Buckingham Palace, London Bridge, Hyde Park Corner, Westminster Victoria, The Strand and more landmark London locations MMPRC said.

The UK is one of the main countries visiting Maldives for tourism. Although 83,089 people from the UK have so far visited the Maldives this year, this is an improvement of 10.5 percent compared to the previous year. With the outdoor advertisement and new promotional activities aimed at promoting the destination in the UK, the business is expected to perform much higher, MMPRC added.

Last year a budget of 3 million dollars was allocated to the Maldives market. The new administration, however, increased the budget to US$ 10 million.
