President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to make 1400 housing units in Kulhudhufushi city by next year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to make 1400 housing units in Kulhudhufushi City by next year.
He made the remarks speaking at the official ceremony held at Thiladhunmathi Kulhudhufushi to celebrate the National Youth Day. During his speech, he remarked that already there is a budget solely reserved to make 400 housing units in Kulhudhufushi, from next year’s budget.

“moreover, I would like to inform you all that, the financing needed for 1000 housing units of this island has been discussed with related foreign parties and is almost at a conclusion” The president remarked.

Recently the Mayor of Kulhudhufushi city Mohamed Athif had detailed that there are 1200 families in need of housing on the island. In addition, he said that he does not want for the island to face same social housing issues that are in the capital Male’ city. According to him, there was a request made to the president to include budget for a social housing project of 1000 apartments on the island. The Mayor further added that, after the communication regarding this matter, they had received a positive response from the president.
Furthermore, Mr. Athif stated that, Housing issue has been one of the biggest social issues in Kulhudhufushi and there is fear of generating other social issues in the island due to the housing matter.
