Zantac, a medicine which is provided for people who suffer medical conditions including gastritis is no longer available without a prescription by a doctor. This was announced by the Maldives food and drug authority (MFDA) today. There is an on-going survey in America, Europe and even in Maldives on Zantac to see if it is prone to cancer.
In an interview with “Mihaaru”, one of the members from MFDA stated that they are fully aware of the complaints about Zantac and that they have been carrying out investigations on it. They have not prohibited Zantac without prescription until now is due to the reason that they have not reached to a conclusion and no other country has done so. MFDA has recently informed the pharmacies that Zantac cannot be sold without a valid prescription by a doctor. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European medicine agency (EMA) have been reviewing the amount of N-nitrosodimethylamine (MDMA) containing in Zantac.
Health experts suggests to consume Zantac after consulting to a doctor, although there is no sudden health crisis due to the consumption of Zantac.
