At high tide, the Maldives Meteorological Centre (MET Office) on Tuesday warned of potential sea swells across the nation for several islands.
According to Abdulla Hafiz, an assistant meteorologist at the MET Office, some islands in the Maldives will experience sea swells, probably as an effect of recent Cyclone Kyarr moving across the Arab Sea but expecting it to weaken in the coming hours.
Cyclone Kyarr has escalated over the past 12 years to become the first Super Cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. Kyarr is now moving west-northwest and is expected to hit the coast of Oman by October 31.
Hafiz also reported that for the next 48 hours, the nation is forecast to encounter fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Over the next 24 hours, winds will differ from east to southeast at 5-15 miles per hour in southern atolls to 10-20 miles per hour elsewhere in northwest/north. In fact, during showers, winds may gust 40 miles an hour.
