2 Indians Evacuated Abroad the Navy Ship Tests Positive for Covid-19

Tests of two of Indian nationals who were evacuated back to India, in the special operation run by the Indian Navy have returned positive for Covid-19.

The Indian news outlet “Times of India” reported that the two Indian nationals were from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu and were identified by the testing done prior to the evacuation.

The repatriation effort by Indian navy ship IMS Jalashwa carrying 698 Indian citizens arrived in Kochi harbor last Sunday morning, is the Indian Navy’s first massive evacuation exercise from foreign soil amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Indian High Commission in Maldives states that more efforts are underway such as evacuation flights from Maldives to cities such as Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.

Positive cases in the country is rising at an alarming rate with now more that 900 diagnosed with Covid-19. Among this are 72 Indian nationals who are undergoing treatment after contacting the virus.

The country is home to more that 27,000 Indian citizens.
