MVR 6.6 Million Received as Fitr Zakat this Year

A total of MVR 6.6 million has been received as Fitr Zakat this year, reveals Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Zakat al-Fitr is a charity taken for the poor a few days before the end of fasting in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

This year marked a considerable increase in the amount collected compared to the MVR 5.6 million and MVR 4.4 million collected last year and the year before.

The ministry also revealed that payments have been disbursed to 1697 individuals of the 1715 registered as a poor and needy at the ministry.  From the total, a sum of MVR 201,097 has also been donated to the Foster Home for children and the Center for Disabled in K. Guraidhoo.
