MACL Tests The New South West Apron

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), tested the first flight operations in the new southwest apron of Velana International Airport (VIA).

The test carried out on 26th was a success according to MACL. In addition to this, their ground handling equipment has been tested and is up to date with the ICAO safety requirements.

The apron is constructed under the airport development projects by Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUSG). The work has been distributed into three phases. While the first phases have been completed, the second and third phases are yet to be carried out.

According to MACL, the apron is said to be designed to fit international standards. The 70,000 square metre apron will be able to accommodate five Code-E Marks and seven Code-C Marks. This also includes a fuel farm and seaplane terminal which are currently under construction.

The new apron will be opened officially once approved by the Civil Aviation Authority.
