Maldives President sends greetings on Victory Day

The Maldives President His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent his greetings commemorating the island nation’s Victory Day.

The statesman sent his greeting via a Tweet made earlier on the morning of Victory Day. In his Tweet the Maldives head of state extended his warm greetings to the citizens of the island nation, while remembering the valiance of the fallen heroes who reached martyrdom while protecting their fellow countrymen.

It has been 31 years since Sri Lanka’s People Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) along with their local co-conspirators attempted to topple the Maldives government by launching an incursion attack on the island nation’s capital city.

The trained insurgents quickly moved into the mainland and gunned down 19 Maldivian civilians while more were left injured.

The surprise attack led by PLOTE on 03 November 1988 caused immense and innumerable damage to both local lives and properties.

The Victory Day of Maldives is commemorated ever year on 03 November in remembrance of the heroic resistance by the Maldivian armed forces and the local soldiers who departed while valiantly fending off the foreign attackers.
