United Nations Special Rapporteur in the Field of Cultural Rights, Karima Bennoune is set to arrive in the Maldives on June 9th to assess efforts to implement cultural rights in the Maldives.

She will further investigate the challenges faced by people due to fundamentalism and extremism in conducting cultural activities in public places and entertaining cultural rights, as set by international standards.
Furthermore, steps taken by the constitution to minimize the impact of climate change on cultures and cultural heritage will also be reviewed by Karima.
She will visit, multiple islands and meet central and local authorities as well as people and institutions working in the field of culture. She is to continue her assessment until the 18th of June.
